I have agonized over this photo and the one after it since the day they were taken in October of 2011. They were good photos but the white balance in them is all wrong and I have not been able to fix it. They were shot in "cloudy" on purpose. What happened was I had just finished reading a book by Brian Peterson where he talked about often shooting in cloudy white balance mode because it imparts such a lovely golden light to your photos, so I decided to give it a try.  Unfortunately I chose the wrong day and the wrong situation to try it.  The day was extremely overcast and slightly wet with a definite blue tinge to it. By shooting in "cloudy" I obliterated the rightful colour balance in my scene and the ensuing headache trying to fix that has taken two years!  I know that sounds crazy and with most photos correcting the white balance is not such a big deal, but with this one for some reason it was a complete nightmare.  Lesson learned though.  Don't shoot everything in cloudy, not even if Brian tells you to.  I know he's the kind of guy who would agree with me that it's nice to experiment but overall it's about getting the shot right.

The frustration I felt was palpable in this earlier post "But I just can't get the photo to look right. I'm fed up. Maybe the technology for me to fix this photo does not yet exist. I will have to wait. As a concept I really liked it though. Two people hiking into the unknown... If it wasn't for that horrible colour."

Today I decided to give it another shot and after a lot of fiddling with it I changed the light to "fluorescent" and for some reason that seems to have fixed the problem.  I guess fluorescent returned the light balance to the right amount of blue.  I am finally ok with this image and the one that follows it.  Not thrilled, but OK.

2011-10-22"The light in this image is all wrong and I have tried various things to fix it but nothing is right. I'm just going to leave it alone for a while and see what happens." LOL. I guess waiting to see was a good idea.
