Project 365 Day 7: Playing With Flash and Dead Flowers
January 09, 2015 • Leave a Comment
I came across one of those B&H workshop videos and while I was only half paying attention, something made me prick up my ears. This guy has some pretty good advice on how to use that off-camera flash. I started experimenting and did some pretty wild and maybe even frightening shadow effects. But after shooting hundreds of pictures in the end I chose this one. A good and true "still life" in Spanish this is called a "naturaleza muerta" (dead nature) and that's literally what this is. A bunch of flowers that I received for my birthday (Nov 8) that are STILL in the vase, shot with an over-abundance of flash against a deep pink background that through over-exposure became a very pretty light pink.
Another favourite from this week was the can of alpha-ghetti below; particularly the reflections on the spoon. Not a horrible start, I think, to my project. I did have a couple of days where at 11:45 I had nothing and then I just shot whatever, but overall my proactive list is working quite well.
